True Servant Community Development Corporation Community Programming Overview 2009/2010
The True Life Center, located adjacent to our main facility, serves as a community resource center for children, youth and families. Currently, our food and clothing pantry, public computer lab and W.O.R.K. Program, youth job readiness and life-skills initiative is housed at the center. In addition, we host monthly events relevant to current issues such as our Breast Cancer Awareness luncheon held annually in October. Lastly, TLC has collaborated with grass roots organizations to provide program operation space to offset their space costs. Our most recent collaborative effort was with a small Trenton based non-profit in need of space to operate a 14-week parenting skills program for at-risk families through the Strengthening Families initiative. Seventeen families successfully completed the program in this past March.

The W.O.R.K. Program: Education & Career Development for Teens and Young Adults:
Created in 2004 as a summer work program for inner-city Trenton youth ages 13 to 18 in response to a new wave of gang violence, The W.O.R. K. Program has provided over 50 youth with hands on work experience, job-readiness and life skills training. Currently operating as a year-round initiative, The W.O.R.K. program is not only preparing youth for the work force but prepares them for “life away from home” at college and beyond. What makes this program so unique is its success in bridging technology with traditional writing and educational skills such as writing an essay, creating a resume, completing employment and college applications, through utilizing a web-based interactive and engaging program by Pikes Peak Learning.

Program for Seniors will address the need to educate and alert seniors to consumer fraud specially targeted towards the elderly. We will provide seniors with the knowledge, skills and resources necessary to prevent consumer fraud and identity theft, which they are uniquely prone to due to age, lack of knowledge and availability of resources and information on this subject.
